i actually felt bad about this title when i started writing this last week but OH MY GOD SHE ACTUALLY FUCKING SANG

i have always loathed the words “cancel culture” or saying someone “got cancelled”. it feels like it minimises the behaviour, actions, or even allegations that comes to light about someone, while simultaneously aggrandising the ultimate (non)consequences dealt by the public jury¹. and saying colleen ballinger is currently getting cancelled feels far too small to describe what has been currently unfolding.

perhaps you have been busy celebrating grimace’s birthday and have not heard about colleen. colleen ballinger has been a youtuber for 15 years. she is most famous for her character miranda sings. but she has also maintained being very well known as colleen via her vlogs/collabs with other creators and now her family channel. she had her own netflix show starring miranda sings, starred in broadway as colleen, done national tours performing as miranda/herself, and happens to be one of ariana grande’s oldest and dearest friends. and despite it probably being the worst episode of comedian…
