tonight is the first sunday without succession in two months. so what better way to spend the newfound free time by waxing poetic about someone i hope to never have the pleasure of meeting1! i hate the profile the new yorker did on jeremy strong. was it entertaining? yes. will i be thinking about some parts of it for a while? yes. for the rest of my life, even. i love jeremy strong and hearing that a new yorker profile of him was dropping was like receiving the most gorgeous coat from a friendā¦.but reading it was like that friend saying they bought it for you because they thought you should have at least one thing in your closet that is not hideous.
celebrities in general are actually quite boring. the things that make them interesting are generally things they would rather not talk about/try to hide and most celebrity profiles (especially recent) are drenched in the stench of public relations professionals. i enjoyed that the author did not hold back his feelings (in the article or on his twitter). but there was a tone of just smug disdain throughout the entire article that reminded me of the miles teller interview! like okā¦ we get itā¦you do not enjoy being around this person. and i think the songbird AND multiplatinum recording artist of our generation deserves a little bit more r-e-s-p-e-c-t!!!
as a jerm/jarb, i am fully aware of my king being a weirdo. even if i knew nothing about him (which i essentially did not before this article), i know he chose to be an actor. choosing to spend your entire life pretending to be someone else is certainly a choice!
yes, he worships daniel day lewis, dustin hoffman, and al pacinoā¦butā¦NOT christian bale! babe, that sounds like TASTE to me! i personally would bankrupt the yale theatre program for much less than some face time with alfredo james pacino2!!!!
i did not enjoy this article except that i absolutely did! i think the article itself was just tonally agitating but the response online is what really made me block3 the author on twitter!!!! he did not discourage the people with queries as to why women are not allowed to be method actors, how the #1 boy of the #1 show on tv has fans, how this article is the definitive proof that his coworkers hate him, and the truly unhinged comparison of jeremyās acting preparation and style to sexual assault??? and ok! yes, that was not his fault but he has previously written a totally flattering and āfairā article about james kimberley corden4, so he is not totally innocent either!!!!
one of my favourite taylor swift songs, the moment i knew, is about knowing the relationship is over when he does not show up to her birthday party. my moment i knew the chris prattification was nigh was the second i saw that jessica chastain tweet.
and then the article she shared. and the letter from aaron sorkin. and adam mckayās endorsement of that aaron sorkin sentiment.
and then anne hathawayās instagram post. (still waiting on the chris evans x jeremy strong fanfictionā¦)
jessica is just like me! anytime a friend or even brief acquaintance is slighted, the feminine urge as the eldest daughter takes over and i am ready to avenge them!
i think michael schulman is a great writer; he managed to write and publish an entire extremely detailed biography about meryl streep without ever even meeting her. so he should know that WORDS MEAN THINGS! i think the profile would have been just as interesting if he had used his pen with the same lightness he gave james corden5. when jeremy insists on being tear gassed but james corden simply says āthatās me!ā as he points to bilboard because a security guard will not let him back on the cbs lot without his id. jeremy did not get tear gassed so it seems that was more of a suggestion than a unrelenting demand; james corden has never been known for his humility so i doubt he was using a calm voice as he tried to bargain his way back inside. (it also feels worth noting that jeremy is a capricorn and james is a leo. think the coverage/public opinion between jake paul and david dobrik even though they both are different sides of the same coin.)
i do not think this article should be erased from the history books. celebrity profiles are either hit or miss. i just think as an actual paid journalist working for a massive respected magazine, there needs to be a readjustment for the impact your profile can have. one of the most brilliant lines in the article is-no, not the shrek one-how hollywood is built for chris evanses not for jeremy strongs. what if people took the cherry picked quotes and purposeful imagery of his brooding intensity and he becomes the next katherine heigl? hollywood is certainly not fair and i have seen enough of [redacted]ās films to know actual talent is not what merits respect or even awards. we will never have 28 dresses and just as easily as he is the number one emmy winning boy, he could find himself having to star in nbc/cbs programming that is horrifying and unwatchable6.
the main takeaway from the profile is jeremy has good taste in actors, clothes, friends, and coffee. and that a straight white male actor likes to hear himself talk, shocking! at least he is saying truly unhinged and incredible nuggets of his truth. no, actually the main takeaway is what jesse armstrong has taken from us. if i hear about one more deleted sceneā¦ā¦so, he gets his makeup done alone and does not want to rehearse ahead of time so it feels more authentic? they all are getting millions of dollars to do their silly little pretending! in all the press they do, it all feels very noncommittal if not somewhat affectionately annoyed at jeremy. but the reaction of certain people to jeremyās onset behaviours or manifestation through ambition seem to forget he is an Actor and not your normal coworker who should be evaluated if they were wailing while you were checking a customer out. or trying to finish your work by the deadline. or whatever myriad of non-acting jobs that are incomparable to the Work that hboās employees do!
at the end of the day, i would much rather have a few of my coworkers and former bosses speak to their experiences working with me than have a plethora of my coworkers defend me from accusations of being affiliated with criminal behaviour and slimy tax havens/harems, infidelities, and all around just being unlikable douchelord! but what do i know? i am just a girl sitting in front of a keyboard asking how am i supposed to go an entire year without successionā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.more if covid has anything to say. PAIN!!! but i will remain #strong4strong
never meet anyone you have any particular fondness for! realising them as an actual human being with (or without, if they are a fame brain diseased person) feelings and lives outside of the immaculate fan cams made by godās strongest warriors
still waiting on al to say the word and i will elle woods the hell out of harvard so that i can properly make sure his representation sees the full weight of the law for jack and jill.
i do not have parasocial relationships. i have parasocial grudges. i will die resenting this man the same way a certain basketball player made a lifelong enemy out of me when he spoke ill of shaquille oāneal in open court. jk i just did not like his twitter feed. not kidding about the shaq stuffā¦ā¦
the last time i read an article about james corden, it was rolling stone detailing how he was alfred hitchcocking the 20-somethings in the australian pop-punk band 5 seconds of summer. but michael schulman and harry styles say james is swell so i guess we should believe them over literally anyone else who has ever encountered the real life will schuester.
i will continue to bring that up because he heralds that as one of his greatest pieces which blew my damn mind! i was just looking at his new yorker profile and his little bio cites that oneā¦ i almost fell off my chair! it is so funny!
we will not speak anymore of that misstep in two queensā resumes!! and her new netflix show is so good!!!! stream firefly lane
